
Dr Carmen García Sánchez holds a Master's degree and a PhD in Advanced Architectural Design, both from the School of Architecture at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid. She combines her architectural practice with her roles as an Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities at the Rey Juan Carlos University and as an Affiliated Researcher at the Center for Privacy Studies at the University of Copenhagen.
She is a member of the Nordic Network for Urban Interiors, as well as a former visiting scholar at the Danish Institute for Science and Art in Rome, the Institute Science Tokyo, and Konstfack – University of Arts, Crafts and Design. Furthermore, she serves as an external scientific expert and consultant for the European Commission, including the New European Bauhaus.
Dr. García Sánchez, has recently carried out her study, Nature-In, as a post-doctoral researcher at The Royal Danish Academy _ Architecture, Design, Conservation, in Copenhagen, after being awarded a Marie Skłodowska-Curie individual research grant from the European Commission. Nature-In provides sustainable design strategies and recommendations to enhance human contact with nature through the experience of interiors, with the aim of improving health and well-being. She has experience of teaching architectural theory and design, including biophilic design, at various international institutions, and has built bridges between institutions in Belgium, Spain, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Korea and Japan.
Above all, her motivation is to contribute to the contemporary, urgent challenges of architecture, with the long-term vision of informing transferable building policy guidelines for implementing approaches such as small-scale, nature-based solutions, and architecture for health and well-being, linked to ideas of sustainability and beauty.
